The selection of Volos as an Olympic City for 2004 is an important achievement in the modern history of the city. This, to a great extent, is based on the city's social economic and cultural infrastructure, as well as an optimistic and ambitious prospects. This publication aims at contributing towards helping the public get acquainted with the achievements of the city of Volos during the 19th and the first half of the 20th century, when the city's main city's modern image. This is a collective depicting the intellectual toil and scientific interests of those who have studied the city's history, either because they were born and live in this city or because this is the field of their scientific research.
