Crete and birds of prey are closely interlinked. Birdwatchers who visit the island are eager to observe these magnificent and imposing birds, knowing that they appear in great numbers and variety. In Crete are found all the diurnal and seven nocturnal species of Greece. The 13 diurnal species nest on the island; seven of these are considered important, with Crete forming a vitally important sanctuary.
