Myth and Coinage: The Use of the Myth

The book was published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same title which will be presented concurrently at the National Archaeological Museum and the Numismatic Museum from April 15 to November 27, 2011. The catalogue is divided in two parts: “The Illustration of the Myth” and “The Use of the Myth”. It analyses the myths, the symbolisms and the interpretations pertaining to mythical figures and stories; furthermore, it includes a rich bibliography. The edition comprises 604 photographs of ancient coins from the Alpha Bank and the Numismatic Museum Collections, of vases, sculptures and examples of metalworking from the Collections of the National Archaeological Museum, as well as of two paintings from the National Gallery.
